I didn’t realize this until we had James, but being a mom is a lot of work. I don’t think I have given my own mom enough credit for everything that she did when me and my sister were growing up. I kind of think that I took her for granted. Sorry mom!
Stacy posted something on Facebook today that really got me thinking about this:
I am a cook, a housekeeper, a parent, a teacher, a student, a referee, a taxi driver, a nanny, a nurse, a handy woman, a maid, security, and a comforter. I don’t get holiday, sick pay, or a day off, I work through the day and some of the night, I am under paid and over worked. Now tell me that YOUR job is harder than mine. Repost this if you’re a MOM.
I don’t want to take away from moms of normal kids, but I think being a mom (or a dad) of a special needs child is so much harder. In addition to all of the ‘normal’ mom duties, there is also all of the doctor appointments, and the hospital stays, and the medications. I guess that could fall under “nurse” in Stacy’s post, but I think it is more like a “care giver”. A mother’s job is never done. She is on call 24/7, and I rarely hear her complain. Stacy, I apologize if I ever make you feel like I take you for granted, but you should know that you are not in this alone. If you ever need a break, or a timeout, just tag me in.
