Sorry that I haven’t posted in a few weeks. There really hasn’t been too much going on, but here is a quick little update.

James is still suffering from congestion and secretion issues. We’ve been talking about taking him to an allergist for an allergy test to see if he has any allergies that may be causing the congestion. He is taking an allergy med which seems to help a little bit. The somewhat funny, and very annoying thing is that the allergy med that James is taking is one of those that is behind the counter at the pharmacy, and you have to show ID in order to get it. You are only allowed to get a certain amount before they cut you off. Well, we found a way around that. The pediatrician said that he will write a prescription for it. What? The doctor can write a prescription for an over-the-counter allergy medication? I guess so! We are taking James to see a new pulmonologist in a couple of weeks, so we’ll see if he has any recommendations on what we can do about the congestion and secretion problem.

The neurologist called Stacy earlier this week to inform us that the manufacturer of one of James’ seizure meds has changed and they will no longer be offering the medication in the same dosage that James is taking. He is currently taking a 5-milligram tablet. We have the choice of going with a 10-milligram tablet that we would have to cut in half, or a liquid. I wonder what we should choose. For those of you that don’t know, James does not know how to suck or swallow and is tube fed, so the liquid would be the obvious choice. If you are asking yourself, “well if he is tube fed, how does he take a tablet”, we dissolve it in a syringe with water and give it to him through his g-tube.

Another one of James’ issues is that he doesn’t have any head control, so when riding in the car, his head tends to bounce around a lot. And if you make a sudden stop his head falls forward and he can’t get it back up on his own. Stacy found a head support that someone is selling through their Facebook page that we’re trying out to see if it helps:

Jelly Bean Ears to help protect his head in the car

That is all I’ve got for now. James turns 4 on Thursday and we’re having his party tomorrow so look for a special birthday post in the next day or two. Here’s a little teaser:
