Reverse House Call?

So, this is a new one. Have you ever watched an old TV show where the doctor makes house calls? Yesterday we did something similar, but in reverse. Instead of the doctor coming to our house, we went to the doctor’s house. Would that be called a reverse house call?

If you’ve been following this blog, or following James on Facebook, you know that he has been having a rough few months…maybe seven months. This past weekend he wasn’t doing so well so yesterday the pediatrician offered to take a look at him, but only if we went to his house, which is 45 minutes away.

We mulled it over and decided to go. It wasn’t what either of us expected. In the old TV shows, the doctor assesses the patient in a bed in the bedroom. So where did the pediatrician look over James? On the kitchen counter! I am not kidding! The doc said that his lungs sounded good and all of the congestion is in the upper airway. He prescribed another round of antibiotics.

An hour and a half of driving for a thirty-minute consult with the doctor at his house. It was weird. Fortunately, he didn’t ask us to stop at the hospital on the way home for a chest x-ray, just to be sure. It would be our luck that they’d see something on the x-ray and want to admit him.

School

Prior to the rough weekend, James was doing good and managed to be in school every day. Monday was “Green Day” at school. Stacy was trying to be the cool mom and tried to find a Green Day (the band) shirt to wear but couldn’t find any in the stores. If she had only thought about it sooner, she probably could have ordered one online. I cut her some slack because she’s been a bit frazzled lately with James’ ongoing illness.

Tuesday James made a hat at school:

In the fall he missed school on both the original school photo day, and the make-up day. Fortunately, he had one more chance to take a school picture this spring and he was actually in school that day. We received his first school pictures in the mail on Thursday. He looks so much older, doesn’t he?
