Amber Necklace

We were hoping that James was going to go back to school this week, but something just wasn’t right with him. He had a rough couple of days after the VNS surgery, but by midweek he started doing much better. Then last Sunday he took a bit of turn. He started to get stuffy, and at the time we thought it may be that he was teething. Actually, that was Stacy’s thought. She knows James better than anyone, including me. And she has the advantage of maternal instincts.

Monday morning he changed from being stuffy to being juicy. Constant secretions, and lots of suctioning. The secretions were clear and not yellowish, so it didn’t seem like he had an infection. After a couple days of this, Stacy realized that when Walgreens refilled the medication that James takes to help reduce his secretions, the manufacture of the medication was different. Walgreens is now using this new manufacturer and was unable to get us a refill from the old manufacturer. Stacy called around and Target was using the old manufacturer, so she got it filled there.

After a couple of days of being back on the old med, his secretions got a little better, but not by much. Last night Stacy had another light bulb moment. When James went in for his VNS surgery, we had to remove any jewelry. He had been wearing one of those amber necklaces to help with teething. We took it off for his surgery and forgot to put it back on. He hadn’t been wearing it for the past two weeks. Stacy put it back on last night and today his secretions have dramatically decreased. We are both pretty amazed that those things actually work! I really thought they were a bunch of crap, but I guess I was wrong.

Wedding

Stacy was really stressed out trying to figure out what was going on with James. To make matters worse, she was supposed to be the Maid of Honor at a friend’s wedding. The rehearsal was Thursday night, and the wedding was on Friday. Stacy was questioning if she should go, but one of the bridesmaids had already cancelled so I told her to go and that James and I would be fine. She had a hotel room for those two nights so she should take advantage of it. Besides, she would only be thirty minutes away if there was an emergency, and she could use the break. After three years of being by James’ side, she deserved it.

Stacy had a good time at the wedding; James and I were fine; and I have a newfound respect for everything that Stacy does for James. It is a lot for one person to handle. That’s why I’m glad there are two of us. Raising James is a team effort.

Here’s a pic of Stacy at the wedding:

Isn’t she gorgeous?

When she got home on Saturday, she attempted to resume her motherly duties, but…

Somebody was tired

I took over taking care of James and let her nap.
