April Fools’ Day

After James’ bad reaction to the generic breathing treatment last weekend, we weren’t sure what the beginning of this week was going to be like. We questioned if we should send him to school or let him relax at home for a few days. He was back to normal when we got home from our trip early Sunday morning and was good all of Sunday, so we decided he was going off to school on Monday.

Monday wasn’t a normal day, though. It was April Fools’ Day and James went to school dressed like a teacher:

Doctor Appointments

James had two doctor appointments this week. The first was on Thursday with the pediatrician. He was a bit concerned about the increase in secretions and decided to put James on another round of antibiotics in case there was something “brewing”. On Friday he had a checkup with the GI doc (gastroenterologist). No concerns there. James currently weighs in at 33 pounds and is 39 inches long.

Pulse Ox Recall

There is a recall on the Masimo Rad-8 pulse oximeter (aka pulse ox). They’ve identified a small number of units that can power off when moved. Stacy called the company to see if ours is included in the recall and it is. We have never had a problem with ours, but we should be getting a replacement from home health. The pulse ox is kind of like James’ lifeline. It measures his oxygen saturations and heartrate, and he is hooked up to it 24/7.

If you have a Masimo Rad-8 and want more information about the recall, here is a link to the US FDA website about the recall:

Photo Shoot

A local photographer was giving away a free photo shoot and a friend of ours nominated us. We won! We should be getting our pictures done towards the end of the month. I’ll make sure I post some here so keep your eyes open for them. We have some pretty awesome friends.

Fundraiser

We had the first of what will be several meetings today to start working on a fundraiser. We’ve been trying to raise money for a wheelchair accessible van through online fundraisers, and while we’ve raised a little bit of money, it is not nearly enough. We’ve even entered to win a van, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to win.

For this new fundraiser we have enlisted the help of a professional who has done several successful events. We’re not sure when the fundraiser will be, but it will probably be sometime next spring. If you have donated to any our other fundraisers, thank you. Your money will still go towards a van or other medical expenses.
