Well, crap! James had an appointment with his neurologist today and when Stacy showed him the video of James’ “quirks”, he thought they looked like infantile spasms and wants to treat them as such until we get a confirmation EEG. Wait a minute! Let’s back up for a second.
On December 14th, James had an appointment with the neurologist and when Stacy described this ‘quirk’, the neuro thought they might be infantile spasms and scheduled an EEG later that week to confirm. (We did not have a video to show the doc at that time). The doc called us after he looked over the results of that EEG and told us that they were NOT infantile spasms, but he wasn’t sure what they were.
Now here we are a month and a half later and you’re telling me that they ARE infantile spasms?! Just to be clear, today the neuro didn’t say that the ‘quirks’ were infantile spasms; he just thinks they look like them. So here we go again waiting for another EEG to find out if they are or not.
If you are wondering what infantile spasms are, here is a brief description from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital: “Infantile spasms (IS) is a seizure disorder in babies. The seizures (or spasms) make muscles in the arms and legs stiff and bend the baby’s head forward. They look very much like a startle. Babies also might have slowed development or loss of skills (like babbling, sitting, or crawling). Although the spasms usually go away by the time a child is 4 years old, many babies with IS will have other kinds of epilepsy later in life.”
Please pray for James that they are not infantile spasms.
