Back at School

After a long break, James went back to school on the 13th and is back to working hard. Stacy tried to get him to work while he was home on break, but he refused. I don’t know about you, but when I was on break from school, I didn’t want to do any work either!

Here he is the first day back working on lifting his head. It’s a bit hard to hear, but notice how James really puts in some extra effort once the therapist starts playing a Miranda Lambert video. He really loves his Miranda! Side note: Miranda, if you happen to be reading this, Stacy and I have been fans of yours since Nashville Star. Now our son is a fan, too!

He’s also been learning how to catch and throw. Here he is playing ball with his teacher and his nurse:

It looks like they’ve finally figured out how to get a switch to work with the laptop. In the video below James is working with the hearing therapist. When he hits the switch, it will pause and play the video. Any guesses what he’s watching? If you need a hint, go back and read the second paragraph.

James has been doing so well this school year that Stacy went to the district and asked if he could stay in preschool one more year. Unfortunately, the district said no, so James will be moving on to kindergarten in the fall. We just want what’s best for him, and he has really been thriving this year. We hope that continues on next year.

Ear Infection

On Monday, Stacy noticed some blood in James’ ear. Oddly enough, James had an appointment already scheduled with the ENT for Tuesday. If it wasn’t for the bloody ear, Stacy would have rescheduled the appointment. It was a very cold 12 degrees on Tuesday, but they bundled up and went. He has a double ear infection and was prescribed ear drops. Poor dude!

Custom Shoes

James got an awesome pair of custom shoes. They are so cool, I’m not sure if he should wear them. The left shoe has a monkey and a cerebral palsy ribbon on it; the right shoe has his name and a banana on it.

Pair of small black Converse shoes resting on a Converse box, each hand‑painted with custom artwork: one featuring a yellow banana and the name “James” in bright blue, the other decorated with a cartoon monkey surrounded by green leaves, with shelves of colorful paint bottles in the background suggesting a personalized art project.

They were donated to James by Peach’s Neet Feet, which is a non-profit whose mission is to provide custom hand-painted shoes to children with disabilities.

Other Stuff

Yesterday we went to James’ cousin’s birthday party. I don’t think James was happy about wearing the hat:

The Kelly and Michael show is having a contest where they are giving away $100,000 to an unstoppable mom. James and I think Stacy is pretty unstoppable, so we would appreciate it if you would nominate her to win this prize. Those of you that know Stacy know how much work she puts in caring for James. She is the best mom that James could ever have. He’s lucky to have her.
