Back to School

After taking a few months off to fight an illness, James finally went back to school on Monday. Because of all the care that James needs, the school district provides a one-on-one nurse for him. This nurse is not a district employee. Instead, they use a nursing agency to provide nurses for students like James. Since James was out of school for several months, the agency reassigned the nurse that he had, which makes sense.

James and Stacy met the new nurse a few days prior to James going back to school to go over everything she needs to know about James. Stacy said she seemed really good and has over 20 years of experience as a nurse. Well apparently, she hadn’t experienced anyone like James before. Stacy stayed at school with James on Monday to work with the nurse and give her some hands-on experience and training instead of just saying “here’s James, good luck!”

When Stacy came home from school with James on Monday, she thought everything was going to be fine with the new nurse. Well, not so much. James wasn’t in school on Tuesday because he had an appointment with the pediatrician and needed to have some blood work done. By the time they got home, there were messages on the answering machine from the school nurse and the nursing agency saying that James’ “new” nurse just resigned, and he’ll be getting another new nurse on Thursday. I guess James was just too much for her. Although we were a bit aggravated, we can’t really blame her. James is a complicated kid.

Thursday Stacy was back at school with James teaching the new new nurse all there is to know about James. Again, Stacy thinks this one will be good, but we’ll have to wait and see. She’s made it though Thursday and Friday so far, and we haven’t received a phone call saying that she quit…yet.

Contest to Win a Van

Now here’s some big news. Somebody—we don’t know who—nominated James as a local hero, and we now have the opportunity to win a handicapped van. Please go to the link below to vote for James:

http://www.mobilityawarenessmonth.com/entrant/james-fulkerson-schaumburg-il/

You can enter once per day per house, so if you place your vote, and then someone in the same house also votes, the second person will get a message saying something like: “You already voted today.”

We were mentioned in an article in a local newspaper about the contest:

I think that if all of James’ fans vote every day, we may have a shot.
