Because of James’ many disabilities, we have enrolled him the state of Illinois early intervention program. Early intervention, or EI, is a program that assists children under 3 years old reach developmental milestones. Through EI James is getting occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), vision therapy, speech therapy, and hearing therapy.

If you live in the state of Illinois and are interested about learning more about early intervention, check out the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) website and search for early intervention. If you are not in the state of Illinois, check with your state’s human services department to see what services they offer, or talk with your healthcare provider to see if they can point you in the right direction.

Here are a couple of pics of James doing some therapies:

Vision therapy with lights on:

Baby seated in a supportive chair with a bear‑themed headrest, interacting with a sensory toy featuring a textured brush surface and a red button. An adult hand guides the baby’s play, highlighting early sensory development, fine‑motor practice, and therapist‑supported learning activities.

Vison therapy with the lights off:

Child reaching toward a glowing red sensory toy in a dimly lit space, with the red light illuminating the hand and textured circular surface of the toy. A dramatic low‑light moment highlighting early sensory exploration, visual engagement, and tactile play for young children.

Occupational therapy:

Baby lying on a soft surface with an orange cushion under the chest while an adult supports the baby’s head. The baby looks wide‑eyed with an open mouth, wearing a colorful outfit, as the adult in a green sweater steadies them. A candid tummy‑time moment highlighting early motor development and parent–therapist interaction.
