Every year since I was born, I would go up to Lake Lawn Lodge in Delavan, Wisconsin for Easter weekend with my family. We would drive up on Good Friday, spend the night Friday and Saturday, and drive home on Sunday. It’s been a family tradition for generations. It was something that my maternal grandparents started. Even though they have both passed, we still continue the tradition.
Unfortunately, for the first time in my 34 years it looks like I will not be going up to Lake Lawn. James hasn’t been doing well the past couple of days, and even though he seems to be getting better, I am not sure we want to risk taking him up there. We have been taking care of him at home with breathing treatments and oxygen when needed, but if he happens to take a take a turn for the worse and needs to go to the hospital, we would prefer to take him to our hospital and not some hospital that doesn’t know him. He’s a pretty complicated dude.
We have talked about the possibility of going up just for the day, but not stay the night. We’re not sure yet. But in case we don’t make it up to Lake Lawn, grandma dropped off an Easter basket and an Easter book for James.
*Update*
We thought James was feeling well enough to take a little trip up to Lake Lawn for Easter so we went up there just for the day Saturday. I was a little bit bummed that we couldn’t stay for the whole weekend, but it was nice to catch up a bit with my aunt, uncle and cousins. Oh, and their buffet dinner Saturday night. MMM. MMM. MMM. I was joking with Stacy that if James wasn’t well enough to go that I would just sneak up there for dinner and come home. It’s that good!
Here are a few pics from the brief trip:
James was still doing good today (Sunday) so we went to see Stacy’s family for their Easter dinner. More good food!
I think James had a good first Easter. It was slightly modified, but hopefully next year we’ll be able to give him the full Easter Weekend experience.
