Family Photos
A few weeks ago, we had some nice family photos taken at a local park thanks to the Epilepsy Warriors Foundation. I will only post a couple of them here, but if you want to see all of the photos, click here.
After our photoshoot, we grabbed a bite to eat at the café that was at the park. As we were eating and enjoying the scenery of the park, I noticed something. I would say that roughly 75% of the people that walked by as we were eating were staring down at their phones! I am not exaggerating. Most of the people walking through the park weren’t even taking in their beautiful surroundings. Were they trying to find Pokemon, or were they too engrossed in the online world to take a moment to truly appreciate the real world around them? I’m pretty sure that the sky could have turned red and hardly anybody in that park would have noticed.
Seizures
James’s seizures are still pretty out of control. Some days are better than others. There have been days that they wake him up in the middle of the night, which then wakes Stacy up from hearing his cries across the hall.
We switched from Charlotte’s Web CBD oil to Haleigh’s Hope CBD oil about a month ago because Charlotte’s web didn’t seem to be working. We’re not sure if Haleigh’s Hope is working either, but we’re going to give it a little more time. If it doesn’t work, we may be looking into medical marijuana. How is it possible that we have all of this technology and all of these advances in medicine, but yet we can’t find anything that will calm his seizures down?! This poor kid.
Pediatric Stroke Warriors Shirt
The seizures are probably a result of the stroke that James suffered before he was born. Pediatric Stroke Warriors is selling shirts to raise some money and to raise awareness of pediatric stroke. James’ name is on the back of the shirt. If you are interested in supporting this organization by purchasing a shirt, here’s the link:

School
I don’t know where the summer went, but James is heading off to 2nd Grade tomorrow. A couple of teachers from the school stopped by our house on Monday to say hi and welcome him back to school. How cool is that? I don’t recall ever having teachers do that when I was younger. I wonder if teachers stopped at every kid’s house, or if James is just that cool.
And with the start of school, that means that James has a birthday coming up. Next weekend we will be throwing his 7th birthday party. Seven. How is James 7 already? Does time just go by faster when you’re a parent? Keep a lookout for his birthday party post. If you’re wondering what the theme is this year, sorry, but you’re going to have to wait.
New Neighbors and Friends
We have a couple of new neighbors that have quickly become friends. They are closer to our age than most of our neighbors, which is nice. Not that our other neighbors aren’t nice, it’s just that we have more in common with these new/younger neighbors. One of the cool things about them is that they talk and interact with James like he is a normal kid. A lot of people see James as different (which he is) and treat him differently or don’t acknowledge him at all. It’s nice to see other people treating him like any other person. He may not fully comprehend the world around him, but I think he still has feelings.
A Reminder
Stacy and James stopped by work last week for lunch. She asked me why I have the picture below on my desk. I told her that the picture is a reminder that no matter how crappy my day might be, somebody has it worse than me.
