Fever

I have to say that Stacy is becoming quite a pro when it comes to James. On Tuesday we switched James from the ketogenic diet—which we were trying as a treatment for his infantile spasms—back to formula. Prior to the diet, James was getting Similac Sensitive. Now we are trying Compleat, which is a real food-based formula. This may or may not be a reaction to the change in diet, but James spiked a fever and had some respiratory issues Tuesday night. Maybe James was just testing mommy to see what she would do. A little bit of Tylenol, laying on a cooling mat, and some breathing treatments and he was back to normal Wednesday morning. Gold star for mommy! I think I have mentioned this before, but one of the side effects of James being sick is that he stops having seizures. Now that he’s feeling better, they’re back.

Epilepsy Awareness Month

Speaking of seizures, did you know that November is Epilepsy Awareness Month? If you would like to raise awareness for epilepsy or show your support for someone (like James) who suffers from epilepsy, wear purple. Don’t have any purple to wear? We can fix that. Stacy stumbled across a company at our local Abilities Expo whose mission is to Embrace diversity, Educate the community, and Empower acceptance and love. You may be wondering why I capitalized Embrace, Educate, and Empower. Because the company’s name is 3ELove. Stacy reached out Stevie, one of the founders of the company, to see if they had any specials planned for Epilepsy Awareness Month. He wrote back with this offer:

Epilepsy Awareness Month! – 15% Off Everything Purple!
Enter discount code: PURPLE
It expires on 11/15/2011 at 11:59 p.m.

This discount will give you 15% off clothing item that is purple with exception of our limited-edition Purple & Gold Tee. Additional items in the order will be priced normally. If someone wants to order over $100 after this discount and before shipping, have them e-mail me, and I will also give them free shipping.

So, if you are in need of some purple clothing to help spread awareness for epilepsy, check out their website at https://www.3elove.com/

Halloween

On Friday Stacy took James to a playgroup with other kids with special needs. Because Halloween is on Monday, the kids got dressed up in their Halloween costumes. James went as a pirate.

Today James was invited to a Halloween party that was hosted by a special needs mom, but he didn’t go as a pirate. Nope. Stacy wanted to do a couple’s costume with James. Since her favorite movie of all time is Grease, they dressed up like they were back in the 1950s. The skirt that Stacy is wearing she made for one of her orchesis dance shows in high school.
