*Updated March 17, 2010 with additional pic.*

James has some muscle tone abnormalities and is unable to hold up his head. We were at Stacy’s parents’ house for St. Patrick’s Day and tried to put James in a Bumbo. For those of you who are not familiar with a Bumbo, it’s a foam seat that babies can sit in while on the floor. It’s round, has openings for the legs and has support all the way around the baby’s mid-section to keep them upright.

Unfortunately, it does not work well for James because it offers no neck or head support. Papa (Stacy’s Dad) tried to use a flexible plastic cutting board for some extra head support, but it didn’t quite work. I still needed to hold up his head so he wouldn’t fall forward.

Hopefully with some physical and occupational therapy James will get stronger and be able to hold his head up.

Update:

Here’s a pic of James in the Bumbo without any additional support or assistance. You can see how he is unable to hold his head up on his own.
