We had a bit of a busy day today with back-to-back doctor appointments. We went to see the pediatrician first for a routine checkup. He thinks that James still has a bit of an ear infection in his right ear so he wants us to continue putting several drops of Ciprodex in that ear a few times a day.

After the pediatrician we went to see the neurologist to go over the 48-hour video EEG (VEEG) that James did three weeks ago. Ready for the great news? The VEEG was completely different from the EEG that James did in September. It looked so much better! The neurologist is not sure if it is because of the Sabril, or if James’ brain is healing itself. And honestly, we don’t care.

After looking at the VEEG results, the neurologist no longer thinks that James is having infantile spasms (IS) and wants us to start wean him off of the Sabril over the next 11 days. After we are done weaning him off of the Sabril, we can start to wean him off the Keppra as well. We mentioned to the neurologist that he is still having spasms, although not as pronounced as when he was first diagnosed in February. We’re hoping that by weaning James off of the Sabril, the full-fledged infantile spasms don’t return and that we can find another med that get rid of, or at least reduce, these spasms. Sometimes they get a bit crazy. We plan on having another EEG in January or February to make sure we’re still heading in the right direction.
