This year we—or should I say Stacy—kept the Halloween costumes simple and dressed up as Alvin and the Chipmunks. James was Alvin, Stacy was Theodore, and I was Simon.

On Saturday, we went trunk or treating at a local church.

Stacy, James, and Jeff pose for a photo together at an outdoor community event. James in a wheelchair wears a red shirt with a large yellow “A” and a matching red cap, smiling between two adults — Stacy in a green shirt and Jeff in a blue shirt. Behind them, a crowd of people, some in costumes, fills the open parking‑lot area under a cloudy sky.

James sits in a wheelchair wearing a red shirt with a large yellow “A” and a matching red cap. Stacy in a green shirt leans in close beside the wheelchair, smiling and holding the handle. They’re in a parking‑lot setting with yellow painted lines and a silver vehicle in the background.

Jeff, wearing a blue shirt and glasses, kneels beside a stroller in a parking‑lot area. James in the stroller wears a red shirt with a large yellow “A” on the front and a matching red cap, giving the look of a simple costume. Jeff holds the stroller handle and a white bag with a purple strap. In the background, people walk past in colorful outfits, and a vehicle is parked near a handicapped‑parking sign, suggesting a festive or community event taking place outdoors.

Our costumes even had tails:

In a parking lot, James in a wheelchair wears a red shirt with a large yellow “A” and a matching red cap. A brown furry tail is attached to the back of the wheelchair. Beside him, Stacy in a green shirt and blue jeans stands holding the chair, also wearing a matching furry tail. A bag and medical equipment hang from the wheelchair, and a red vehicle is parked nearby, giving the scene a fun, coordinated‑costume feel.

Since James can’t speak, we programmed his switch to say “Trunk or Treat” whenever he pushed the button. We tried to get it on video, but it was a bit noisy, so it is hard to hear.

Today they had a Halloween Party at school that Stacy was able to attend. I was unable to go so James’ one-on-one nurse took my place as Simon.

In a classroom setting, James sits in his stroller wearing a red shirt with a large yellow “A” and a matching red cap. Two adults kneel close on either side — his one-on-one nurse in a blue shirt and glasses, the Stacy in a green shirt — both smiling and holding James hands. Behind them are filing cabinets, a computer, chairs, and colorful decorations including a large paper pumpkin and a tree mural with heart shapes, creating a cheerful, supportive atmosphere.

James sits in a stroller wearing a red shirt with a large yellow “A.” On his head is a black paper costume piece decorated with two cotton‑ball eyes and long zigzag paper strips hanging down, giving it a playful, spider‑like look. An adult in a blue shirt leans in, adjusting the headpiece. Chairs and classroom equipment sit in the background, suggesting an indoor craft or costume activity.

In a classroom, Stacy holds a large pumpkin‑shaped activity board with bright orange sections and cutout facial features. The board has printed numbers near the top and bottom. James, in his stroller, dressed in a red outfit and red cap with a supportive neck pillow, looks toward the board as Stacy helps guide the interaction. Other children and adults are visible in the background, adding to the busy, group‑activity atmosphere.

James sits in his stroller wearing a red shirt with a yellow letter and a red cap, facing a wall where an orange projection shows a cartoon skeleton and three singers holding microphones. An adult beside him holds a red pointer stick up to the skeleton figure, guiding the interaction. The scene takes place in a classroom, with chairs and equipment visible around them, giving the moment an engaging, hands‑on activity feel.

The weather has been on the warmer side for this time of year, so we took James trick or treating for the first time around the neighborhood tonight.

A single‑story house with white siding, black shutters, and a brick entryway is decorated for Halloween. Several carved pumpkins sit in the front yard alongside two tombstone props, a scarecrow figure in bright fall colors, and a small white ghost decoration. On the sidewalk , Stacy in a green top and jeans pushes James in his stroller towards the front door.

Stacy in a bright green long‑sleeve shirt, jeans, and green sneakers walks along a suburban sidewalk while pushing James in a stroller. James wears a red sweatshirt with a large yellow “A,” a red cap, and jeans. Behind them are neatly kept lawns and two houses — one with beige siding and another partially visible with white trim and bushes. A small yard sign sits in the grass, though the text isn’t readable.

A front yard is transformed into an elaborate Halloween scene, enclosed by a black metal fence draped with fake cobwebs and small skull decorations. Inside the yard, tombstones, skeletons, zombie figures, and other spooky props create a dense graveyard display, with fog adding to the eerie atmosphere. The house behind it has boarded‑up windows, a large spider decoration, and Halloween lights. On the sidewalk, Stacy in a green shirt walks beside a stroller carrying James in a red outfit, passing by the haunted‑yard setup.
