This ought to be a short post. The is the second month in a row where not much has happened. It’s been kind of nice. We all needed a break from all of the chaos in July and August…in the hospital with pneumonia for a few days, back into the hospital a couple of weeks later for the adjacent tissue transfer surgery, and then back into the hospital six days after that for a possible infection and abscess by his tailbone.

Health Update

Nothing to really report here. For the most part he has been staying healthy. He still has some minor breathing issues here and there, but that’s not abnormal. It’s just James. One day his numbers (sats and heart rate) will be wonky, and the next day he’ll be perfectly fine. Last Sunday he was supposed to watch daddy play in a vintage baseball game through work, but he was having one of his “off days” so he stayed home. Monday he was perfectly fine and went to school like nothing had happened the day before.

We’re doing our best to keep him healthy, which includes making sure he gets his vaccinations. On Monday he got his second dose of the Covid vaccine, as well as a flu shot. We questioned if he should get both shots at the same time, but the pharmacist said it would be fine. As a precaution, in case there were any adverse reactions to the shots, Stacy kept him home from school on Tuesday and Wednesday to keep an eye on him. He was perfectly fine; no reactions at all.

He saw the pediatrician this morning for a routine checkup. Because of James’ illnesses in July and August, he wanted to do some bloodwork to check the levels of various things. His vitamin D level was in the normal range, but on the low side so he recommended we give him a little bit more vitamin D. Everything checked out fine.

School

“Self Portrait”

James and his nurse made that at school. It is supposed to be a self-portrait of James walking Maggie and drinking coffee. I can’t help but laugh. First of all, she does realize that he can’t walk, right? Second of all, he is only 12 and probably shouldn’t be drinking coffee. Although, maybe a little caffeine kick will help him stay awake. The hair is pretty accurate, though. This kid does have some crazy hair!

He also made Stacy a few gifts for her birthday. A tile coaster, a bookmark, and a vase with flowers.

I don’t think Stacy did this intentionally in the beginning, but he has worn a plaid shirt for every school picture since preschool. I think it may have been accidental for the first couple of school pictures, and then when she noticed it, she continued to dress him in plaid shirts for every school picture.
