I hope I don’t jinx it, but it looks like we changed history…in a good way. On November 29th, 2009, James was three months old and was in the PICU (Pediatric ICU) with pneumonia.

On November 29, 2010, James was fifteen months old and was on the pediatric floor (PEDS) with pneumonia.

November 29, 2011? He was at home looking at Christmas lights.

He has been fighting some sort of illness over the past couple of weeks, but it looks like history did not repeat itself and we avoided the post-Thanksgiving trip to the hospital. Now that he is almost back to normal, and we can breathe a sigh of relief, we have started looking towards the future. First up? Christmas!

In addition to apps, Stacy discovered that there are also books available that can be downloaded to both James’ iPad and her iPhone. She downloaded several books for them to check out. James may be asking Santa for an iTunes gift cards for Christmas this year so we can get more books and apps for him.

On Wednesday, Stacy was trying to have a conversation with James about Santa, but he got a bout of the hiccups, so it was a pretty short conversation:

We decided to buy a bigger Christmas tree this year since we have more space for it in our new house. James helped us put it up on Saturday.

Stacy also bought some customized ornaments for our tree:

Monkey ornaments

Snow globe ornaments

If you’re wondering who Jackson is in that second ornament pic, he was our first son who sadly passed away before he was born. You can read more about him on our About Us page, under The First Pregnancy.

Let’s see. What else happened this week? Well, Stacy started stressing about James going to preschool in the fall. Like next fall. Fall of 2012. Ten months from now. To be clear, she’s not stressing about him actually going to school and leaving mommy. She is stressing about what he is going to go to school in. She made a note to talk with James’ occupational and physical therapists to see what we need to do to get him a stroller or wheelchair or something. This is one of the many things I love about her. She is always thinking ahead…sometimes almost a year ahead. If it was me, I wouldn’t have thought of that until maybe August, right before he was supposed to start school. If we can get something through the state’s early intervention program, it might take several months to actually get something.

Several months ago, James was entered into a contest win a Tumzee. A bunch of our friends and James’ fans voted for him, and he actually won! It was delivered earlier this week and Stacy took the below video of him trying it out for the first time. We hope that with some practice, he will be able to push up and hold his head up. Thanks to everyone who voted for James and won him the Tumzee. If you’re not a Fan of James yet, what are you waiting for? Head over to Facebook and become a fan.

On Friday James had an appointment with the orthopedist. Unfortunately, his scoliosis has gotten worse. He currently has a 33-35% curvature of the spine. If a child gets between 40- and 50%, they will put the child in a brace; if the child gets above 50%, they will do surgery to correct the curvature of the spine. The doc is reluctant to put James in a brace because of his respiratory issues; and he is also concerned about surgery because of his lungs. James has another appointment scheduled for June, so we’ll wait and see how his spine looks then. James has been seeing a chiropractor, so we’ll see if he is able to do anything to help his scoliosis. If the scoliosis is worse at the June appointment, we may need to stop seeing the chiropractor. Our insurance only covers a certain number of appointments every year; the rest we have been paying for out of pocket.
