First of all, we wanted to thank everyone for checking in on James (and us) to see how he has been doing since his hospital stay. And thanks to those of you who left comments on his Facebook posts.
As I mentioned in the last post, we did keep him home from school on Monday and depending on how he was doing we may or may not send him back to school on Tuesday. Well, the hospital called on Monday to let us know that one of the tests they ran came back and showed that he had something called coronavirus. And if you’re wondering if it has anything to do with the beer, no it does not. He did not sneak off to Mexico and get drunk.
They didn’t give us much information about what coronavirus is, other than the symptoms: cough, fever, headache, runny nose, and a sore throat. Well, great! James doesn’t cough, he can’t tell us if he has a headache or a sore throat, and he normally requires nasal suctioning because he is unable to manage his secretions. So, the only symptom on that list that would apply to James would be a fever, which is a symptom of a lot of things. He has not had a fever since being home from the hospital, so we weren’t sure if he still had it or not. Just to be safe, we decided to keep him home from school all week. We didn’t want him spreading it to anyone else.
School
We received a letter from the school district telling us that James will be in the intellectual disabilities classroom for kindergarten next year. This really wasn’t a shock, but for some reason Stacy broke down and started crying. She doesn’t know why. We are well aware that James is disabled, both physically and mentally, but I think it was just reading those words—intellectual disability—that just hit her. Tomorrow we will be visiting that school and classroom.
Fundraiser Update
We are just a few short weeks away from the fundraiser, and we can’t believe all of the publicity we’re getting. A fitness center in our neighborhood put up a poster on their front window:
Our chiropractor is offering a free exam, free x-rays, and a free treatment plan if you make a $50 donation to the fundraiser:
We have an interview tomorrow with a local paper for an article that they want to write for the event. And there is an article in another local paper that’s supposed to be running in Thursday’s paper.
We really can’t thank everyone that has helped with this fundraiser enough. It’s been a lot of work to get to this point. We’re almost at the finish line. Just a few more weeks! Of course, we also want to thank everyone who has donated items to be auctioned off, the DJ who has donated his time to play music at the event, and Robin Baumgarten from WGN Morning News who will be there signing autographs. Thank you all!
James is very lucky to have so many awesome fans!
