If you follow Fans of James on Facebook, you are probably already aware that March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. James was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, or CP, when he was in the NICU. In spreading awareness of CP, our aim is help people:

  • See the person before the disability.
  • Understand how Cerebral Palsy affects someone.
  • Learn how to help people who are living with Cerebral Palsy.

Cerebral Palsy is a physical disability. It is a permanent life-long condition, but generally does not worsen over time. It is due to damage to the brain. CP affects people in different ways. There are no two cases of cerebral palsy that are alike. CP affects body movement, muscle control, muscle coordination, muscle tone, reflex, posture and balance. People who have cerebral palsy may also have issues with seeing, learning, hearing, speech, epilepsy and eating. James has issues with all of those. There is no known cure for CP. If I ever get some extra downtime, I plan on writing an article about cerebral palsy. Once I get that written, I will link to it here. Until then, please check out the following resources to learn more about CP:

Giving Back

We have been very fortunate with all the help we have received over the past five and a half years, and we have always said that if we were ever in a position to give back, we would. Now that Stacy is a Thirty-One Gifts consultant, she has decided to donate a portion of her commissions from her March Cerebral Palsy Awareness Event, which runs from March 20th to March 30th to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Chicago. For every $20 spent, your name will go into a Little Carry-All to win a BIG prize. James will pull a name on March 31st. For more details about this event, please checkout the event page on Facebook:
