A pediatric hematologist stopped by today to talk to us about getting tested for factor V. If you recall from my post a couple of days ago (NICU Day 8), one of James’ blood tests revealed that he has factor V Leiden, which is a blood clotting disorder. James inherited this from one of us and the hematologist thought that Stacy and I might want to get tested to see which one of us has it. If you are wondering what a hematologist is, it’s a doctor that specializes in disorders relating to blood, bone marrow, and the lymphatic system. I think we should get tested. It won’t do anything to help James, but it will be for our own knowledge.

If you recall from my September 3rd post, James was aspirating on his feedings so they stopped his feeds and placed a PICC line for fluids and nutrition. They decided to slowly reintroduce breast milk to see how he tolerates it. We will start with 10cc over an hour.
