One of the NICU doctors said we should have a meeting on Tuesday of next week and hopefully have G-tube surgery shortly after that. He said that there is no rush on having this surgery.
James was put back on Pepcid and Reglan for reflux and GI.
The NICU nurse working the night shift thinks that an ENT should look at James because there are some things that may help manage his secretions. There is medicine that can help, or there is the option of putting in a tracheostomy tube which would provide better access to clear secretions. The nurse will mention it to the morning nurse to see what her opinion is.
Please excuse me, but I need to vent a little bit here. James has been in the NICU for over a month now. He has been seen by so many different doctors, specialists, and therapists. They’ve run countless tests trying to figure out everything that is wrong with him and how to best care for him. One of James’ many issues is that he is unable to suck or swallow and therefore cannot clear his own secretions in his nose and throat. This requires someone to suction James, sometimes frequently, to clear the secretions from his airways. An ENT is a doctor that specializes in the Ear, Nose and Throat. Why is this the first time an ENT has been mentioned?! Hopefully we can get an ENT to assess James soon and give us some ideas or options to manage his secretions better.
