When Stacy got to the NICU this morning, one of the nurses said that she gave James a half dose of morphine because he was very tense. After she gave him the morphine he loosened up. We don’t know what caused him to become so tense. Was he in pain? Did he have some discomfort?

A physical therapist came by in the early afternoon and worked on James’ neck and shoulders.

We had a little bit of a setback today with the G-tube. Stacy left the NICU at around 3:15 pm for a little break. When she got back to the NICU at around 4:30 and went to change his diaper, she noticed his pillow was wet. At first she just assumed that he urinated on his bed but when she was changing him, she noticed that James had milk coming out of his G-tube site. One of the NICU nurses called the surgeon to come down and take a look. Stacy waited until 5:15 pm and then left to meet me for dinner. When we got back to the NICU at around 7:45 pm, the surgeon still didn’t hadn’t arrived and James had not eaten since 1 pm. Stacy looked at his G-tube site and saw some old blood.  She spoke with a NICU nurse and the nurse called the doc again to look at it. One of the surgical residents came down and said the G-tube looks good and to decrease his feeds.  James is getting 20 ml overnight and we will have to wait and see what happens in the morning. Maybe they were increasing his feeds too fast after surgery. We need his G-tube to heal before we put too much milk on his belly.
