James started summer school a couple of weeks ago and seems to be enjoying it. Hopefully with the warmer weather he’ll be able to spend more time in school, unlike during the school year when he seemed to be continuously sick.

His one-on-one nurse found a swing for him to hang out in that he seems to enjoy, and a rainbow arch that he can use for tummy time to help drain his secretions. It looks like the rocking motion of the swing really relaxes him. I think he fell asleep.

Asleep in the swing

Stacy was wondering if we should get a swing like that at home for him. I was all for it until I saw the price. Do these things really cost this much?!

It would be nice, but there’s no way we can afford that right now. We’ll have to do some research and see if we can find a grant, or maybe a generous donor. I’m not really sure where we would put it. Our house isn’t that big, and it looks like it would take up quite a bit of space. Maybe we could just buy the swing part and get an outdoor frame for a regular swing and use it outside. We’ll have to think about this.

Do you ever look at your kid and wonder what skills or talents they will inherit from you, or from their other parent? The picture below was taken at school last week, and I wondered if James would get any of his mom’s artistic abilities. He surely won’t get it from me. Art was not my thing.

On Tuesday they had a 4th of July parade at school. They found a wagon to wheel James around in and decked it out for the parade.

Thursday was the 4th of July, and while we didn’t have any plans, James wanted to dress up in red, white and blue. He is wearing one of the shirts that Stacy makes through her side business. If you are interested in purchasing one, please check out her Facebook page, Stacy Rae Creations.

Happy 4th of July

Friday morning at around 2 am James woke up crying. Stacy got up to check on him and he had an elevated heartrate between 160 and 180, and his sats were bouncing between the mid-80s and mid-90s. He was sweaty and shaky but didn’t have a fever. She rocked with him a little bit, then laid him on his cooling mat on his floor. After about half an hour of lying next to him and rubbing his back, he finally calmed down and they both fell asleep. When Stacy woke up at 7 am, she was a little stiff from being on the floor, but James was back to normal. We have no idea what that was about, but glad that he’s better.

This weekend Stacy started working on James’ 4th birthday. Yep, James is going to be 4! How did that happen. I often hear a lot of parents say that the years just fly by when they’re little. I don’t think that is true with special needs kids or kids with medical challenges. I feel like these past four years have been VERY long. Between the hospital stays, the doctor appointments, and the illnesses, sometimes we don’t really get the chance to stop and breathe. The birthday theme this year will be Cars. If it’s anything like his past birthdays, it should be pretty cool.
