Sorry that it’s been a few weeks since my last post. For the most part James has been doing well since he got out of the hospital on November 8th. He still has his good days and his bad days, and Stacy has been getting a bit worn out. I help out when I get home from work, and on the weekends, so it is wearing a bit on me, too, but it is taking more of a toll on Stacy because she has deal with the rollercoaster of an illness that James has more than I do.
We finally felt he was healthy enough to send back to school this past Monday. It was the first day he was back at school since Halloween, and they didn’t waste time putting him to work. They had him washing dishes.
He did come home a bit congested and was struggling to keep his oxygen levels up, but it was nothing that Super Mom Stacy couldn’t fix. We were joking that maybe James realizes that if he’s sick he doesn’t have to go to school.
Unfortunately, James has missed so much school that he didn’t get school pictures taken. He missed the original day of school pictures because of his VNS surgery, and he missed the make-up day a few weeks ago because he was in the hospital. He’ll have one more chance to take a school picture in the spring, so hopefully he doesn’t continue the trend of missing school on picture day.
Trying to look at the brighter side of things, according to Stacy’s notes, James has not had a bad seizure since October 1st. We’ve learned that he doesn’t have seizures when he’s sick, but he has been having some good days lately, so we’re not sure why he isn’t seizing like he used to. He did have the VNS put in on September 24th, but it’s not currently turned on, so it shouldn’t be doing anything to stop seizures. We are not complaining about the lack of seizures, but it’s just weird.
Since we’re on the subject of seizures, did you know that November is Epilepsy Awareness Month? If you follow James on Facebook, I’m sure you already know this. Stacy did her part to raise awareness by getting her hair dyed a couple of weeks ago.
