After taking a week off to recover from his latest illness, and whatever coronavirus is, James was back in school this week. He might not have been quite ready to go back, though. Monday, he seemed to be doing okay. He went to school, and Stacy picked him up a little early and headed over to see the school and classroom where he will be attending kindergarten in the fall.
It will be a longer school day than he’s used to…8:45 am until 3:00 pm Monday through Friday. He’ll have art, music, library, as well as physical, occupational, vision, hearing, and technology therapies. They will be long days for him, and he’ll probably pass out when he gets home, but we think it will be good for him.
On Tuesday he took a bit of a turn. Stacy got a call from his school nurse in the morning that he wasn’t doing well. Lots of shaking and crying, high heart rate and low sats. Stacy ended up picking him up early and kept him home for a couple of days to recuperate. With our big fundraiser just around the corner, we don’t need James missing it due to illness or being in the hospital.
Taking those couple of days off from school seemed to be just the medicine that James needed. He went back to school on Friday and was back to working hard in physical therapy:
We’ve been so happy with his progress in therapy that we don’t want him to lose it over summer, so Stacy has already started making him work on the weekends. She has to be careful, though. Yesterday he flung his head up so fast that he almost knocked her in the chin.
Fundraiser Update
The fundraiser is two weeks from today. We have a lot of last-minute stuff to do, but we’re almost there. We really do have an awesome team helping us put this together, and we are extremely grateful to each and every one of them. We are also grateful to all of the local businesses that have allowed us to put up posters for the event. This is at a local ice cream place:
We had an interview with a local newspaper on Monday for an article that they are writing about the event. They plan on running it in the Sunday, March 30th edition of the paper, which will be perfect because that will be exactly one week before the event. There may be other articles about the event in other papers, too. It’s kind of crazy. We really didn’t think we’d be getting this much publicity.
If you are interested in attending the event, tickets can be purchased in advance at www.rollingforjames.com. Or, if you prefer, you can purchase tickets at the door. Based on the amount of publicity we’re getting, it might be smarter to buy tickets online. I have a feeling there might be a line out the door with people buying tickets at the door.
If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, but are unable to attend the event, we are planning on selling any leftovers through Facebook. I will let you know where to go and how to order whenever we get that figured out. Here is a collage of the shirts that Stacy put together:
Fingers crossed that we can keep James healthy and we can attend the event. It would be a bit weird for us not to be there, wouldn’t it?
