Well, he made it. James is officially 1 year old. Actually 1 year and 1 day old to be exact. His birthday was yesterday, August 29th. After everything that James has been through over the past year, and not knowing how many birthdays he will have, we wanted to make it a BIG deal. We invited family, friends, neighbors, nurses from the NICU, therapists, his pediatrician…pretty much anyone that helped James (and us) in some way over the past year.
Since we live in a 2 bed, 2 bath condo, we didn’t have the space to hold that many people at our place so we had it at Stacy’s parent’s house. I don’t know the exact number of people that showed up, but between the adults and the kids, there must have been 75 people there. It was a really good time, but we were wiped by the end of the day. Unfortunately, James probably won’t remember it as he gets older. Not because of his neurological issues, but because I don’t think anybody remembers their first birthday. I surely don’t. I think the first birthday I remember was my 6th birthday. That’s when I got my first bike without training wheels. I remember my dad putting it together while I and my friends watched. And I still remember the feeling of that first ride around the block. Sorry. Went off on a tangent there. Back to James and his big day.
Stacy made a special video to celebrate this special day, which I have included at the bottom of this post. But before you get to the video, check out some pictures from the party.
Even though he couldn’t eat it, we had to have one picture of James with frosting on his hands and nose!
