In a post about a month ago, I mentioned that James had been staying healthy. Well, I might have jinxed it. He had a bit of a rough week. On Monday he had a fever of 101.1, was really cranky, and couldn’t seem to get his sats above 94. We did the usual Tylenol for the fever and breathing treatments for his sats which seemed to help.

Tuesday, he had a scheduled checkup with the pediatrician. He received another dose of the DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis) vaccine. I can’t remember which dose this was…the third? Or was it the fourth? He also got the first dose of the Hepatitis A (Hep A) vaccine. He weighed in at 26 pounds and is 32 ¾ inches long. Overall the pediatrician said he looked good. He did recommend we take James to a dentist. I wonder if there are dentists that specialize in kids with special needs or if we just take him to a regular kids’ dentist.

The rest of the week James seemed to be doing fine. Then yesterday he started having a lot of these head twitches. They were very subtle; sometimes he cries after he has one, sometimes he doesn’t. I took a couple of videos while he was sitting in my lap. In the video below you can see how subtle they are.

Stacy put a call into neurology and fortunately was able to talk with James’ current neurologist. She tried to describe these twitches to him. He said they sounded like myoclonic jerks and recommended a modified dosing of one of the seizure meds that James is currently taking and see if they go away over the next couple of days. They seemed to get progressively worse throughout the day. We were starting to discuss taking him to the ER, but Stacy decided to put another call into neurology first. This time she got the neurologist on call which happened to be the neurologist we recently left because there were things in James medical file that we were never told. That was a bit awkward! He recommended two tablets of another seizure med that James is taking.

Today James seems to be doing much better. The twitches, myoclonic jerks, or whatever they were seemed to have mostly gone away. He still has them here and there, but not nearly as frequently as he was. Hopefully they will completely disappear and not come back.
