Birthday Boy
As of Wednesday, James is officially 3 years old. It’s really kind of hard to believe. It’s been a long 3 years, but here we are. I have to give Stacy a lot of credit. She has been an awesome mom, caregiver, and nurse to James. Now that James will go off to school for a few hours a day, I don’t think she’ll know what to do with herself. Maybe get caught up on some sleep? Maybe get a massage? Or maybe meet some friends for coffee. Well, tea in Stacy’s case, because she doesn’t drink coffee.
Some of Stacy’s friends had some balloons delivered for James’ birthday.
Stacy and I decided to take James out for his birthday. This is what kind of sucks about having a child that can’t eat by mouth. As a kid, I used to love going out for dinner on my birthday. But what do you do when your kid is tube fed? We went to Olive Garden for dinner, but I think it was more of a treat for Stacy and I than it was for James. As far as we know his nose still works, so maybe he enjoyed the smells.
Thank you for all of the birthday wishes on his Facebook page. Wait, you’re not following him on Facebook? What are you waiting for?
Happy Birthday Buddy! If you missed it, go take a look at his birthday party post.
Starting School Next Week
Since James will be starting school on Tuesday, this past week was his last week of early intervention (EI) therapies. He will now be getting his therapies through school. All of the therapists he had through EI (vision, hearing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech) were wonderful and James will miss them all. We hope that the therapists at school are just as good.
The other piece, which wasn’t as critical as having a nurse, is having a wheelchair for James to go to school in. It was ordered in February. Stacy was told in early August that it was being put together and should be delivered sometime in mid-August. Perfect. So, we’ll have it before school starts. Wrong! Stacy found out this week that the chair hadn’t even been ordered! Excuse me?! If it wasn’t ordered, then why did you tell us three weeks ago that it would be ready for delivery in mid-August? I guess we will be sending James to school in his stroller for now.
