Happy New Year

2012 has come to an end, and here we are at the start of a new year. Have you made any resolutions for the year ahead? Lose a little bit of weight? Exercise a little bit more? Eat a little bit healthier? For Stacy and I, our resolutions are all of those, and to do our best to keep James healthy. These past few months have been a little bit rough on him.

We thought he was finally getting over his illness at the end of December. He spent the last week of the month completely off oxygen, but this past Tuesday James woke up a little bit congested. Stacy put him back on a little bit of oxygen—only 1 liter—and started up the breathing treatments again.

By Friday, James was doing good, so Stacy cut back on the breathing treatments to just one a day in the afternoon. We are still keeping him home from school until March, though, especially with the news we just heard. Apparently, the current flu outbreak in Illinois is one of the worst in the nation. Great! So, am I going to have to wear a biohazard suit to work and decontaminate myself before I walk into the house so I don’t bring it home?

Note that the original news clip I had linked to below has been replaced with this one from January 9th. I felt that it was much more informative.

It’s kind of strange how your views change when you have kids, especially ones that are medically compromised. Before we had James, I probably would have just shrugged off the news of this flu outbreak. Now that we have James, things are different. We’ve got this fragile kid that we need to watch out for. For the next few months, we will be keeping him at home in a bubble. I normally ask you to pray for James’ health, but this time I am also going to ask you to pray for our sanity…especially Stacy’s.
