I want to start off by saying that Stacy and I are pretty easy-going people. It takes a lot to get us upset about something. If you have been following James’ story, you are probably well aware that we are under a lot of stress. Our world was turned upside down almost 3 years ago when James was born. Our lives have not been easy since then, but we try to just take one day at a time, and not let things get to us to much.
With that being said, I hope what I am about to say doesn’t make us sound like an a$$holes, but there was a story in the news that really pisses us off. I have not actually seen the video of the school bus monitor who was bullied…I just don’t want to see it. I understand it was pretty brutal. And I feel awful that she had to go through that. And I thought it was cool that somebody set up a “vacation” fund for her. That just shows that are still good, compassionate people out there. But this is what pisses us off…as of right now, the so-called “vacation” fund is at almost $600,000! Are you freaking kidding me? Take a look for yourself… http://www.indiegogo.com/loveforkarenhklein.
Before James was born and we had 2 incomes, we saved like crazy. We have been trying to make it work with one income since Stacy became a full-time caregiver after James was born. We have been dipping into our savings every month in order to stay out of debt. But sooner or later that money is going to run out. And then what?! Then will we get assistance for James? Probably not, because we make too much money! I will say it again, are your freaking kidding me? We started a medical fund for James a couple of years ago to help with some of his medical expenses. I think we might have raised $10,000 in the past 2 years. And somebody raises almost $600,000 in a matter of days for a woman who was bullied by a bunch of kids? Now that just does not seem quite fair, does it?
I have reread what I wrote, and I guess some of it does sound a bit a$$holish, but part of reason for this blog was to provide an outlet for me to vent about things, and this was just something I had to get off my chest. Stacy feels the same way. We would do anything for James. We have been trying to do everything in our power to give James the best life possible. Sometime in the next couple of years, James will be in a wheelchair, and we will need to purchase a wheelchair accessible van. We have taken a look at what they cost, and I really don’t know how we are going to be able to afford one. Even if we were to finance it, I’m not sure if we have enough money left over at the end of the month afford the car payment.
Stacy has started a fundraiser to try to raise a little bit of money for the van that we will eventually need. We don’t expect it to reach the levels of the bus monitor above, but every little bit helps. The fundraiser can be found here: http://www.indiegogo.com/p/135849?a=760336.
For those of you who have made donations over the past couple of years, we sincerely thank you.
