These past couple of months have reminded me just how short life can be. My cousin passed away in June a couple of weeks shy of his 47th birthday. Then in early July a good friend told me that he was diagnosed with late-stage bladder cancer and the doctors were giving him a 50/50 chance. He will be turning 46 next weekend.

This morning I was working in the garden, and I noticed that one of our sunflowers had finally bloomed. It got me thinking about how really short their lives are. In less than a year, they go from a seed to a beautiful flower, and then die. Such a short, but simple life. They were put on this earth to do just a few things…feed the birds and bees, and to add beauty to the landscape. Maybe that’s the secret to life…feed the souls of others and make the world a more beautiful place.

As I sit here writing this and sipping my coffee, I am questioning what I have done to brighten other people’s lives and how I have made the world a better place. I encourage you to do the same.
