James had a minor illness on the 31st, with a little bit of a fever, and some yellow “gunk” as Stacy calls it coming out of his nose. We gave him some Tylenol, kept up with the suctioning, and kept an eye on the fever. The next morning when he woke up, he was back to normal. The fever and yellow gunk were gone, which was good because he had an appointment to pick up his new AFOs and wrist guards. For those of you new to this blog, James has AFOs, or Ankle Foot Orthotics, to help keep his feet and ankles in better alignment. He also has wrist guards for the same reason.
If James could speak, I’m sure he would tell mommy to buy him some tall socks for his AFOs. They had to put these silly stockings on him to try on the AFOs:
This is what his AFOs look like:
And here are is new wrist guards:
We’re still hoping the ketogenic diet that James is on for his infantile spasms eventually works, but we’re getting a bit concerned about his weight. He’s getting awfully thin! In the 2.5 months that he’s been on this diet, he’s lost 4 pounds. We are working with the nutritionist to see if we can adjust his calories because this can’t be healthy. We obviously want to give the diet a chance to do its thing, but we don’t want to introduce any new health issues. We didn’t think to take a topless picture of him when he first started the diet, so the most recent “before” picture is actually from 10 months ago. But this is just to give you an idea of what he looked like before the diet and what he looks like now. He looks like a totally different kid.
