James went to see the neurologist on Thursday to check in to see how everything is going. Because James is still having frequent seizures/spasms, and the fact that James has lost so much weight, the neuro thinks we should take James off the ketogenic diet. Another failed treatment to get the seizures under control!

The neurologist overseeing the keto diet said that we can stop the diet cold turkey and don’t need to do any weaning off of it. In talking with the nutritionist, she recommended that James try Compleat, which is a formula made from real food. He was on Similac Sensitive prior to the diet. We’ll keep James on the keto diet until Compleat is delivered and then make the switch.

In addition to taking James off the keto diet, the regular neurologist made a dose adjustment to one of the seizure meds that James is currently taking. We will also be adding vitamin B6 and krill oil. Prior to the keto diet, we were giving James a DHA supplement, but had to take him off of it because of the diet. Although it tends to be more expensive, James’ chiropractor recommended krill oil because the omega 3 in krill oil has a higher rate of absorption over fish oil. Both fish oil and krill oil have DHA, so we’ll have to look at how much of a price difference there is.
