James got new glasses yesterday and he looks adorable!

Have you ever had your eyes checked, either at an eye doctor or at the DMV? They usually have you look at a chart on the wall or in a machine and ask you to read a particular line out loud, right? So, what do they do they do with a baby that can’t speak? How do they test their eyes? I don’t know what the test is called, but apparently there are ways that an eye doctor can test a baby’s eyes and determine if a baby needs glasses.

We were not surprised when they eye doctor said that James needed glasses. The optic nerve in his left eye never fully developed so we already knew that he had some vision deficits. Back in April the doc wanted us to start putting an eye patch over his right eye to try to make the left eye stronger. Because James can’t speak, we don’t know if this worked or not.

Today James was watching TV with his new glasses and he seemed to react more. I wonder if everything had been a blur to him for the past 11 months and now he can finally see things clearly.

A baby wearing glasses and a yellow bib lies on a white cloth with an orange patterned edge. The child’s face is slightly flushed, and their head is positioned against a red surface with light-colored fabric visible around the sides.
