James was sating in the low 60s for about half an hour this morning. He had 3 desatting spells and they used a bit of air flow to pick him back up. He wasn’t taking enough big breaths to fill his lungs with oxygen. They eventually took the NJ-tube out of his nose, James let out a big sneeze and then began satting back up in the 90s. Stacy wasn’t sure if there was a correlation between removing the NJ-tube and his sats coming back up, but I would imagine that having a tube in your nose would restrict some air flow. And if he had some secretions clogging that nostril as well, that would have restricted airflow even more. Maybe he just needed to let out that big sneeze to clear his passages.
The results from the 24-hour esophageal pH test that James just had were not read today so we don’t know if he is refluxing or not. We will hopefully get the results on Monday. One of the NICU nurses thinks they will find something refluxing back up, but another nurse doesn’t think so. We’ll have to wait until Monday to find out.
The physical therapist and the speech language pathologist saw James back-to-back and he was pooped!
