When Stacy and I first started out on this journey with James, we kind of felt like we were alone in this. None of our friends or family members had children with special medical needs so we really didn’t have anyone to talk to about what we were going through or to ask for advice.

Thanks to the Internet, we didn’t feel as alone. When James was diagnosed with infantile spasms (a form of epilepsy) when he was about five months old, Stacy found an Infantile Spasms group on Yahoo that later turned into a Facebook group. She made a lot of good connections in that group and learned a lot from other moms who were dealing with the same thing.

Cox Communications recently released a commercial that reminded her of that group and how thankful she was to have found it. It gave her a place to ask questions at any time of the day or night and allowed her to vent her frustrations to a group of moms that knew exactly how she felt.

This is just a reminder that you are not alone. No matter what you are going through, there is someone out there that has gone, or is currently going through the same thing. It doesn’t have to be dealing with a child with special needs. It can be depression, substance abuse, bullying, or practically anything else. Don’t ever feel like you are alone, because you are not.
