Halloween Costume Sneak Peek

I think Halloween is one of Stacy’s favorite holidays. Not just because she has a sweet tooth and loves candy, although that is a bonus; it’s because she gets to dress James up in a costume. In years past he has been Tigger, Curious James (Curious George), and Handy James (Handy Manny). This year you can call him Dr. James. I won’t reveal the full costume yet—you’ll have to keep an eye on his Facebook page for that—but I will give you a bit of a sneak peek.

James’ one-on-one nurse at school had given Stacy an old pair of scrubs and Stacy went to work on cutting them down so they would be James’ size.

Stacy took some of the left-over fabric and made a cap and created an ID badge for him to wear:

Be sure to check out James’ Facebook page on Friday to see James in his costume.

Gifts

James had some amazing nurses when he was in the NICU. We’ve kept in contact with them, and some of them even follow him on his Facebook page. James had a day off from school a couple of weeks ago for Columbus Day, so Stacy took him to the hospital to meet one of those nurses for lunch. After they finished lunch, she gave James a couple of gifts…a monkey, and a happy pill that laughs when you squeeze it:

Another special needs mom is quite the seamstress like Stacy. She made James and awesome monkey blanket. He’ll get a lot of use out of it during the cold winter months.

Thank you both for the gifts. You are awesome!

New Glasses

After his eye infection a few weeks ago, the eye doctor thought it might be a good idea to get James a pair of glasses to protect his eyes from airborne irritants. He doesn’t close his eyes or blink so anything that happens to find its way into his eye stays there unless we see it and flush it out with eye drops. He doesn’t need prescription lenses, so we just ordered glasses with non-prescription transition lenses. These should help protect his eyes a bit, and since they are transition lenses, they can act as sunglasses when he is outside.

It only took a couple of days for us to realize that we might have a problem:

That’s not how you’re supposed to wear your glasses James

They can’t protect his eyes if they are not covering them. We may have to rethink this. James asked Arthur for advice on how to keep his glasses on his face:

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day

October 15th was Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. For those of you that don’t know, we lost our first child, who we had named Jackson, to Trisomy 18 before he was born. We lit a candle, said a few prayers, and talked to James about his brother in heaven.
