“Dear James,
I do not want to be an adult anymore…
Love your roommate,
Mom”
I worry that Stacy is reaching her breaking point. For the past month or so James has been struggling with a high heart rate (sometimes with low oxygen saturations and sometimes not), an increase in seizures, an increase in secretions, congestion, and fevers. We been to a few of his doctors, and they’ve told us that there is nothing “physically” wrong with him. Everything seems good, even his lungs.
Stacy takes him to the chiropractor weekly, which we think helps with the scoliosis and keeps him loose. He just keeps getting REALLY upset and cries. Stacy has been giving him Motrin daily in case he is in some sort of pain, but that doesn’t seem to be working. School keeps sending him home because of the high heart rate, double breathing, and fevers. I should note that they use a temporal thermometer at school; at home we take his temperature rectally and his temperature is only slightly higher than normal.
We’re not sure what else to do. James is obviously telling us that something is wrong, but nobody knows what. I feel that Stacy is on the verge of a breakdown because she has to deal with it all day long. I just wish I could be there more for her. We’re supposed to be a team, but it’s kind of hard when I have to work. This just totally sucks.
We had a babysitter for James tonight so I took Stacy out to dinner, hoping it would take her mind off James–even if it was only a temporary distraction—and help her relax a bit. I think it was good for her to get away from James for a bit, but then it was back to the reality of what the f is going on with him. Please say a prayer for her—all of us—that we can figure out what is wrong with James, and more importantly, how to get him back to normal.
Miscellaneous Happenings
Let’s see if I can finish this post with a little bit of a happier tone.
James got fitted for his new wheelchair last week. I am not sure how long it is going to take to get the actual wheelchair, but I’m sure I’ll post pictures when we get it.
He went back to swimming this week at the hospital that has the therapy pool. We’re kind of hoping that the warm water will get him to loosen up, relax, and take away whatever has been bothering him.
His school pictures came in this week.
There was also a puzzle of his school picture, so Stacy got a little bit creative. He is our little puzzle. Especially lately!
