Photo of James lying on a soft surface, wearing a white shirt with a turkey design made from patterned autumn‑colored leaves. He appears to be resting or mid‑yawn. Overlaid text reads “SO VERY thankful” and “From our family to yours!!!” giving the image a Thanksgiving‑themed, family‑centered feel.

Taking a step back from the sometimes-chaotic life of raising a special needs child, we have a lot to be thankful for. We’ve always been fortunate to be surrounded by family and friends that have supported us, and we will forever be thankful for all of them. These past two years we’ve also received the support of complete strangers. From the fundraiser we had to raise money for a wheelchair accessible van, to the pergola that Make-a-Wish built for us, to the bathroom renovation…it’s all been incredible. We are thankful for each and every one of you. Raising a child with so many needs is rough, but each of you has helped make it a little bit easier, so thank you!

The one thing we are thankful for above all else is James’ health. As many of you may know, November tends to be a bit rough on James. His little body has a hard time adjusting to the colder weather, he develops pneumonia, and winds up in the hospital. He seems to have gotten a little bit stronger over the years and has been able to avoid a November hospital stay the past couple of years. Looking back at the medical notes that Stacy keeps, the last time he had a November illness that required a hospital stay was the first week of November 2012. It looks like this year will make the third year in a row that he has beat the November bugs.

Hey may have gotten stronger on the inside, but he’s also gotten a little bit bigger on the outside. Look how much he has grown over the past two years:

Side‑by‑side comparison of two photos labeled “2013” and “2015,” each showing James lying on a patterned cushion and wearing a white shirt with a turkey made from colorful fabric pieces. The 2013 image shows him smaller with softer features, while the 2015 image shows him slightly older with subtle changes in hairstyle and expression. The matching setup and shirt design highlight the passage of time and a recurring Thanksgiving tradition.

In case you have ever wondered, the Tooth Fairy does work on Thanksgiving. Stacy laid James down for tummy time before dinner like we normally do. When she got him up to eat, he was missing two teeth. It’s a good thing he’s tube fed. It would have been pretty hard to eat by mouth with very few teeth left on the bottom.

If you thought to yourself that James could use a haircut after looking at the Thanksgiving 2013/2015 picture above, he got one yesterday:
