School
In my last post I mentioned that James had a rough weekend after all of our running around. We ended up keeping him home from school on that following Monday to give him another day to recover. Then he was right back at it working hard in school. He wasn’t quite able to get his head over like the PT and his nurse wanted, but he did manage to roll on his back, so that counts for something, right?
We just love how much encouragement his team at school gives him. I think it really helps.
Something new that his therapists are trying is to have him hit a switch which is supposed to play a music video. They haven’t quite figured out how to get they switch to act as a play button, so instead, whenever he hits the switch, somebody presses play.
If I haven’t mentioned this before, we are extremely pleased with our school district. James really has an awesome team of therapists. Here he is working with his occupational therapist (OT), physical therapist (PT), hearing therapist, and someone from the technology department.
New Car Seat
We’ve been looking for a new car seat for James for a few months now. Because he has low muscle tone and isn’t able to sit in a chair without falling over, we were trying to find something that would give him some more support. Fortunately, they do make car seats designed for special needs, but unfortunately, just like everything else for special needs, they are very expensive. How expensive? Well over $1,000. Closer to $2,000 than $1,000. Yeah, that expensive!
We had been trying to figure out how we were going to be able to afford one when Tadpole Adaptive happened to be giving one away. We didn’t win, but a local organization came through for us. Helping from Heaven just donated a Convaid Carrot 3 car seat to us.
Here’s a picture from the manufacturer’s website:
It looks like something you’d see in a racecar, doesn’t it? It should provide James plenty of support. It’s Let’s see how long it takes Stacy and I to put this in the car.
Ear Infection
Stacy took James to the pediatrician on Tuesday because she suspected he had an ear infection. She was right. The doctor prescribed ear drops and an antibiotic.
Thanksgiving
We hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. We ate too much, like usual. Well, Stacy and I did. I guess that’s one of the good things about being tube fed. James didn’t overeat because his feeding pump gives him the same amount of food for every meal. I do still wish that James will be able to eat someday. I know he probably won’t, but I can still wish for it, right? There is so much good food. I guess it’s fortunate that he has never eaten by mouth…he doesn’t know what he’s missing.
